Marine Corps Commandant to Have Heart Surgery

He had a heart attack last month.

U.S. Marine Corps Commandant General Eric Smith suffered a heart attack, collapsing during a run on October 29. He is now home from the hospital where, according to a statement from the Marine Corps, he is “continuing his recovery… well ahead of schedule.”

The military branch stated, “He is now focused on preparing for an upcoming procedure to repair a bicuspid aortic valve in his heart, which his doctors assess directly contributed to his cardiac arrest.”

“General Smith and his wife, Trish, remain incredibly thankful for the continued outpouring of support from family, friends, and colleagues,” the corps added. “They appreciate everyone’s continued respect for their privacy ahead of General Smith’s procedure and full recovery.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For General Smith and his family as he prepares for heart surgery.
  • For the surgeon(s) and medical professionals who will operate and conduct the procedures.
  • For healing and wholeness for the U.S. Marine Corps commandant.
